Information systems play an essential role in the production, sharing, storage, and transmission of information across various fields. Hospital information management systems used in the health sector actively meet the needs of physicians, administrators, and patients. These systems ensure data is collected correctly, completely, and interdependently. Originating in the 1960s, hospital information management systems are classified as integrated and modular. Integrated systems include hospital general information, clinical information, management information, and database management systems. Furthermore, these systems encompass resource utilization, financial management, materials, facility management, and staff management. They aim to enhance patient satisfaction, strengthen internal communication, reduce costs, and securely store data digitally. In Turkey, the development of these systems is linked to the Health Information Systems Project supported by the World Bank in 1990, and further advanced by the Ministry of Health post-2000. This study evaluates the development and functions of hospital information management systems with a focus on Turkey, examining their types, purposes, and benefits, and analyzing their development and components in Turkish healthcare institutions.
