The research explores the theoretical models of mixed economic systems, characterized by the differentiation between public and private sectors. Based on the System of National Accounts (SNA), these sectors are defined through 'institutional units,' categorized into non-financial corporations, financial corporations, government, nonprofit organizations, and households. The study critiques the traditional dual-sector approach, advocating for a trisected model that includes a distinct nonprofit sector. This is achieved by applying a refined set of criteria that identify the roles and interactions within mixed economic systems. The paper proposes a new methodological framework to better understand the institutional dynamics and offers a fresh perspective on quasi-market segmentation.
