As in other sectors, tourism is an industry where competition is intense. Therefore, the countries, gaining the majority of their national income from tourism, develop tourism strategies and policies in order to achieve competitive advantage against their competitors and to sustain these advantages. Thus, the primary aim of this study is showing Turkey’s growth in terms of tourism and the markets that Turkey has more shares by using the shift share approach, developed by Esteban-Marquillas in order to measure the regional development. The evaluation is carried out in comparison with six countries (France, Germany, Italy, Malaysia, England and the United States) which are in top ten in terms of visitor numbers. With the results of the analysis, it is determined that in what areas Turkey and other studied countries have become specialized and in which markets they have become competitive.
