This study investigates the solid matrix of the human knee joint meniscus utilizing scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to elucidate its anatomical and physiological constituent elements. Key aspects analyzed include the orientation of collagen fibers at various depths, the relationship between collagen and proteoglycans during compression, the cellular composition of the meniscus, and nutrient diffusion channels in avascular regions. Additionally, the mechanical tensions experienced during locomotion are assessed, providing insights into the meniscus's structural integrity and functional performance.
